Key Features of Youth Flag Football:
-
Non-Contact Play: Instead of tackling, players wear flags attached to their waists. To stop a play, defenders simply pull the flag from the ball carrier. This keeps the game safe and enjoyable for everyone.
-
Team Size and Field: Games are played with smaller teams, usually 5 to 7 players on each side, on a smaller field that is 80 yards long. This makes it easier for young players to get involved in the action.
-
Inclusive and Coed: Our league is coed, meaning boys and girls play together. This promotes teamwork and inclusivity, making sure everyone has a chance to participate and have fun.
-
Skill Development: Youth flag football focuses on teaching basic football skills like passing, catching, running with the ball, and defensive strategies. It's a great way to learn the game and improve athletic abilities.
-
Simplified Rules: The rules are easy to understand, making it simple for kids to pick up the game quickly. This includes basic rules for passing, scoring, and pulling flags.
-
Emphasis on Fun and Sportsmanship: The main goal is to have fun! We encourage good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude both on and off the field.
Benefits of Youth Flag Football:
-
Safety: With no tackling, the risk of injuries is much lower, making it a great option for young athletes.
-
Physical Activity: Playing flag football is a fantastic way for kids to stay active and healthy.
-
Social Skills: Kids learn to work together, communicate, and build friendships with their teammates.
-
Confidence Building: As children learn new skills and improve their game, they gain confidence and self-esteem.
-
Family Friendly: Games and practices are usually scheduled together, making it easy and convenient for families.
Youth flag football is an excellent introduction to the sport, providing a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for kids. Whether they’re just starting out or looking to improve their skills, flag football offers a fantastic way to get involved in the game!
Our games are played on an 80-yard field. Each session includes both a short practice and a game, all taking place at the same location to ensure convenience for families.

Ready Set Sports – Flag Football Concussion Protocol
At Ready Set Sports, player safety is our top priority. We follow a strict concussion protocol to protect athletes from the short- and long-term effects of head injuries.
Immediate Removal from Play
• If a player experiences any head contact, head injury, or shows signs of a concussion, they will be immediately removed from the game or practice.
• Once removed, the player will not return to play that day under any circumstances.
Signs & Symptoms of a Concussion
Coaches, referees, and staff are trained to look for the following signs:
• Headache, dizziness, or nausea
• Confusion or difficulty concentrating
• Balance or coordination problems
• Sensitivity to light or noise
• Loss of consciousness (even briefly)
• Any unusual behavior or mood changes
Next Steps After Removal
• The player must be evaluated by a licensed healthcare professional experienced in concussion management.
• A written medical clearance will be required before the player can return to any Ready Set Sports activity.
• There is no set timeline; the player remains out until clearance is provided (“out until further notice”).
Parent & Athlete Responsibilities
• Parents are expected to monitor their child for symptoms at home and seek appropriate medical care.
• Athletes must honestly report any concussion symptoms to coaches or parents immediately.
No Exceptions Policy
Ready Set Sports will not allow any player to return early without documented medical clearance. Player health always comes before competition.
